  • Monitor safety in all play areas and maintain a calm, organized environment

  • Keep the café, exhibits, baby area, and common spaces clean and reset for the next group

  • Ensure opening/closing checklists are completed properly

  • Support the café side with drink prep or quick service when needed

  • Strong problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced environment

  • Warm, friendly customer service style

  • Ability to direct staff clearly while staying positive

  • Confident handling occasional conflicts or high-energy situations

  • Enjoys working with children and families

Preferred Qualifications

We’re especially excited to meet candidates who have at least 2 years of experience in restaurants, customer service or client-facing roles, family-/child-focused spaces, and/or small businesses. Experience as a barista or server is a big plus. CPR certification and Food Safety training are helpful but not required (we can provide training). Because this is a weekend position, weekend availability is required.

Job Title: Part-Time Barista

Reports to: Operations Manager
Hours: Part-Time (2 weekdays/week 10am-3pm) + Sundays (3:30pm-6:30pm); there is some flexibility to take on more shifts when coverage is needed

Description: STEMspot is not your typical coffee shop—we’re a mini museum for kiddos and a warm, joyful café where families come to make memories, relax, and feel supported. We’re looking for a barista who can thrive in a fast-paced, high-energy environment while still delivering warmth, connection, and accuracy with every drink.

We’re seeking someone who:

  • Makes drinks quickly, consistently, and accurately, even under pressure

  • Is warm, friendly, and genuinely enjoys interacting with families and young children

  • Can multitask—chatting with guests while keeping drinks flowing

  • Works well as part of a supportive, collaborative team

  • Is energetic, focused, and calm in a lively environment

  • Is comfortable stepping outside the traditional barista role to read a story, lead an activity, restock, tidy, or connect with families as needed

  • Loves being part of a space where memory-making and parent-community support are at the heart of everything

This is a great role for someone who enjoys both the craft of coffee and the joy of being around families with little ones.

Qualifications

  • Prior barista, café, or fast-paced customer service experience REQUIRED. We are in our busy season, so we would like someone coming in with knowledge of pouring espresso shots and basic milk frothing techniques.

  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure

  • A friendly, approachable presence with both adults and children

  • Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player

  • CPR and Food Safety Certifications are a plus (but not required)

How to Apply

Please review our website to get a feel for our mission and environment. Then send a short note sharing why you’d love to join the STEMspot team, along with your resume, to owner@stem-spot.com. If it’s a good fit, we’ll reach out to schedule an interview.
